The Most Common Eyebrow Mistakes (And How To Avoid Them)

Eyebrows are an important part of your facial expression and personal style. But sometimes we make mistakes in caring for, shaping, or applying makeup to our eyebrows. These mistakes can ruin your look or damage your eyebrows. In this blog, I share the most common eyebrow mistakes and give you tips to avoid them.

Mistake 1: Over-plucking

A common mistake is removing too many hairs when plucking. This can make the eyebrows too thin, too short, or uneven. It can throw your face off balance and give you an angry or surprised look. Moreover, over-plucking can reduce or stop hair growth.

How do you avoid this mistake? Only pluck the hairs that fall outside the natural shape of your eyebrow. Use a pencil or a thin makeup brush to determine the correct length and shape. Keep the skin taut and pull the hairs in the direction of growth. Do not pluck too often, but let your eyebrows rest and recover occasionally.

Mistake 2: Choosing the wrong color

Another mistake is choosing the wrong color for our eyebrow makeup. If the color is too light, your eyebrows will disappear. If the color is too dark, your eyebrows will look too harsh or unnatural. This can make your face look older or more severe.

How do you avoid this mistake? Choose a color that matches your hair color and skin tone. Usually, a shade darker than your hair color is a good choice. If you have blonde hair, you can use a taupe or light brown color. If you have dark hair, you can use a brown or gray color. Avoid black or red shades unless you have that hair color. Test the color first on your hand or a piece of paper before applying it to your eyebrows.

Mistake 3: Using too much or too little product

A third mistake is using too much or too little product to apply makeup to our eyebrows. If we use too much product, we get an unwanted blocky or cakey effect. If we use too little product, we don’t get a nice result or the product doesn’t stay on well.

How do you avoid this mistake? Use the right amount of product for the desired effect. If you’re using powder, pencil, or pomade, make sure you distribute the product evenly over your eyebrow brush or pencil. Apply the product with light, short, hair-like strokes. Follow the natural shape and direction of your eyebrows. Blend the product well with an eyebrow brush or spoolie. If you’re using gel or mascara, make sure you wipe the brush well to remove excess product. Apply the product with an upward and outward motion. Comb your eyebrows into shape and remove any smudges with a cotton swab.

Mistake 4: Not caring for the eyebrows

A fourth mistake is not caring for the eyebrows. We forget that eyebrows, like the hair on our head, need nourishment, hydration, and protection. If we don’t care for our eyebrows, they can become dry, brittle, or thin.

How do you avoid this mistake? Regularly care for your eyebrows with an eyebrow serum, oil, or balm. These products contain ingredients that nourish, hydrate, and strengthen the eyebrows. Apply the product to clean eyebrows, preferably in the evening before going to bed. Gently massage the product in with your fingertips or an eyebrow brush. Let the product absorb well and do not rinse it off. Repeat this daily or a few times a week for the best results.

Mistake 5: Not updating the eyebrows

A fifth mistake is not updating the eyebrows. We think we only need to apply makeup to our eyebrows when we go out. But even at home, at work, or at a party, our eyebrows could use a touch-up. Throughout the day, the product can fade, run, or disappear.

How do you avoid this mistake?

Touch up your eyebrows as needed. Carry a mirror and an eyebrow product in your bag or pocket. Check your eyebrows occasionally in the mirror and fill them in where necessary. Use a waterproof or long-lasting product to prevent your eyebrows from melting or disappearing. Set your eyebrows with an eyebrow gel or mascara to keep them in shape all day.

These were the most common eyebrow mistakes and how to avoid them. I hope you found these tips useful and that you will apply them. Let me know what you think in the comments. Thank you for reading and see you next time!
